Always liked this song, going back to when it first came out. The '80s were fun.

That sucks. Pretty good documentary out about him and the New York Dolls reunion.

Are you talking about the Arthur "Killer" Kane doc? Or is there another one?

The Kane doc is really about him, w/the Dolls being kind of secondary

Even Kafka isn't honoring the endless sleep thread? That thing should be fricking anchored!

It doesn't bother me if somebody starts a thread when a person dies (if they deserve it -- not so much when the third replacement bass player for Foghat buys the farm & someone thinks he merits his own thread). This isn't a competition.

No sir... I'm done searching for it.. the precedent has been set!

edit: not to mention this thread originally referenced Buster Poindexter instead of the Dolls... no shame!

Yeah, I noticed that too. That's the music most people know from him.

Interestingly, "Hot Hot Hot" was nowhere near as big a pop hit as I thought, only making #45 on BB. I remember it being played constantly, everywhere.

What seems to be your concern? Don't like Buster?

Nah, I just found it odd that that the last living member and leader of one of the most influential bands was more remembered for his 80s alter ego and a cover song...

The song was fun enough...

Mainly, just a little banter with Kafka...

My first awareness of David Johansen was when he performed this on an episode of Miami Vice in the early 80s... Rap was exploding all over NYC at the time.. sorry Kafka

One of the most influential? Not really. NYD were a bunch of low talent junkies doing a bad Rolling Stones impression.

King of Babylon is a good song, performed live for the show.

Yes, easily one of the most influential and revered bands... David Johansen, Sylvain Sylvain, Johnny Thunders, Arthur Kane... C'mon..

Their influence on the NYC/UK punk scene to Glam/Hard Rock bands.. Kiss/Aerosmith/Hanoi Rocks and the LA bands they influenced, is undeniable..

Saw the NY Dolls show in ‘74 in BR at Independence Hall. What an introduction it was to punk and glitter! Kiss opened and Blue Oyster Cult was the headliner. RIP.

Think what you will of their lifestyle or musical abilities.

But their influence is indisputable.

Yes, they were heavily influenced by the Stones - The NYD sound is essentially The Stones crossed with the Detroit scene of tMC5/Stooges. But the Dolls also added elements of Brill Building pop, as in their emulation of The Shangri-Las.

The Dolls were major inspirations to The Ramones, who I doubt even you will say were not influential.

Not all NYD influence was positive. Their look was copied by David Lee Roth, and eventujally the hair bands of the '80s.

The NYD were one of the most influential US bands of the '70s & maybe ever, certainly far exceeding their commercial success.

Any specific memories/stories?

Did you see the MC5 at The Speakeasy?
