Circus

Creem

Hit Parader

Not mine. But I had these copies at one time with many others.

These magazines and later on, Headbangers Ball were the only way to get rock/metal news. I wish I could go back and get all mine. I bought so many of them.

I never read Creem, but Circus and especially Hit Parader were the shite.

Same here, in Junior High and High School. Started reading Kerrang! in the early 80’s.

Metal Edge was what I mostly read.

Circus had a detailed feature on KISS and it helped me fake a book report in Jr. High. I called the book Kisstory. Thanks Circus, my life is a lie.

I read those mags too but man, you boys were missing the boat in the 80’s if you weren’t reading this one:

Out of England, hands down the best source for metal news in magazine form in the 80’s. I used to pick it up at a couple of different record stores in Baton Rouge.

ETA: I missed tigermeat’s nod to Kerrang! a few posts up.

and upvote.

Creem was my favorite magazine. They had super funny writers with great taste in music and weren't afraid to talk shite. Rock and roll attitude in spades. (See my avatar)

I went through a Circus phase but that magazine was very geared toward heavy/classic rock and ignored more evolved artists of the era. Writing was a little pedestrian. No Lester Bangs to be found for sure.

Hit Parader was like a more Teen Beat-ish version of Circus. Only use I had for that one was most of the pages were dedicated to song lyrics and sometimes that would come in handy.

Dude, after reading your music posts over the years, I’m convinced we had to have hung out together and partied somewhere down the line.

Hell yeah man!! Wouldn’t surprise me a bit. We definitely have made some similar posts and were at some of the same shows for sure. Man I miss those days!

I remember having a Metal Edge magazine in middle school that my bitch-of-a-math teacher took away from me in class because she thought it was devil worship-type stuff. I used to hardcore scope the advertisement pages for all of the band shirts and iron-on patches I planned to buy for my denim jacket.

They had a great cartoonist, too.

I liked metal edge and they'd come with posters that I'd hang in my room.
