Recommend me a recording software

I need a free and simple recording software for my laptop. I need to be able to layer multiple tracks. Any recs?

I've been playing around with Mixcraft 6 lately since I'm on a pc. I wanted some free (at least to demo) and user friendly. Especially after trying Ableton, which I couldn't even begin to figure out.

Studio One by presonus is pretty awesome.

I actually use the newest pro version and by all accounts, the free one has many great features found in the pro one.
