What are the requirements here? I recognize maybe 8 of those names. I know the DJMag poll has it's problems, but is this just resident-only DJs?

RA is a little less commercial and more in tune with the global electronic music scene. Many of these DJs only play in Europe and Asia. This is a list for EDM connoisseurs.

You should know the top ten at least. Hawtin has a weekly residence at Space: Ibiza. He gets the whole club!

RA has a strong preference for techno and trance/progressive so their lists don't always thrill me, but it's a nice assembly of big names and up and comers in the game.

Yeah. They seem to be on point with what's happening in EDM. The brostep we listen to in the US(Denver in particular)is not a global phenomenon.

Not a lot of EDM fans here, I gather.

theres a few of us here. well probably like 5 or 6. that list is pretty legit. ive seen a good bit off the list but those guys arent really my style. to be honest ive probably seen most of the guys from going to shows with my buddy who is more into the electro/house/minimal stuff. im strictly a drum and bass head so i basically talk to myself here about the dnb

I consider myself a huge EDM fan. But I know maybe a dozen the names on that list, and I haven't heard of anybody in their top ten.

Do they spin at big festivals? How else would I have heard of them?

Ill give you a pass on the top 10 for the most part because this is a forum based in the southern U.S. and im assuming you live here but there is no way in hell you are a huge edm fan and havent heard of Richie Hawtin. If you know 12 people on the list(im assuming sasha, digweed, carl cox, etc), you should know Hawtin aka Plastikman.

I live in DC.

Your assumptions are correct.

I don't know Hawtin. I don't know what to tell you. Where is he based out of?

Richie Hawtin = F.U.S.E. = PlastikMan

He's been around since the early 90s, when "Techno" was just getting big in the US.

Ritchie Hawtin is part of the big "second wave" of Techno coming out of the Detroit area. Remember, Techno was invented in Detroit. House in Chicago. This discussion really puts the emphasis on how behind we are with "Mainstream EDM". This list is the most in demand DJs in the world. Sure, AVB and Tiesto have their draw, especially with newbies, but these are the guys pushing the genres. Give a listen to some of them. I see Techno, Minimal Techno, Tech-House, House, Minimal House, Nu- Disco, Trance, Techtrance, Breakbeat, Electro- House, and Future Garage. Globally DMB is Dubstep and Brostep don't exist.
I've been in the scene a very long time and this is the greatest peak in EDM I've ever seen. Loving the diversity and availability of music.

I cant speak on most genres but the diversity of styles in drum and bass right now is awesome. Its a shame I dont live in London

Thanks, but I don't really need a history lesson on this subject. I was talking about when people were throwing around the term "Techno" in 1991/1992. Like every compilation CD that came out had the term "Techno" in the title.
