I know almost nothing about Soft Machine
From what little I know of Hawkwind I doubt they're my cup of tea. But some people might think they belong here.

The Cavaliers - In the Deep BLue
The cavaliers - You better move on
The Cavaliers from Mississippi released only one 45 under their own name, "Looking for Love" / "You Better Move On" on the Spot Light label in May 1966. "You Better Move On" is the Arthur Alexander song that the Rolling Stones covered.
This version of "You Better Move On" was picked up for release by Shelby Singleton's SSS International label with a new group name, as the Moving Violations (catchy, right?). The flip side was a different song for this release, "In the Deep Blue Sea", written by vocalist John Burk. Production is by Huey Meaux.

They were from the small Delta town of Greenwood MS. Note the power-chording, which Pete Townshend was experimenting with around the same time.
IIRC this track was listed in Dave Marsh's Top 1000 book.

Soft Machine's second album is my favorite of all time. Robert Wyatt is a unique story, Kevin Ayers also started in the SM, but they went from the early psych era, to more of a prog-jazz sound by their 3rd album and beyond.
Hawkwind is one of my Top 5 bands of all time. But, just like Soft Machine, went through a lot of changes over the years, my favorite was the early years through 1975. They were the ultimate 'space rock' band of the early years, but later took on other directions through the years, the mainstay of course, was Dave Brock. There were several other associates bands and offshoots, like Nik Turner, The Hawklords (space punk?) and of course, Lemmy was their bass player for a short time.

Digging around Flower Power from gulfport had a real San Fran psychedelic sound. They actually sound like they had a feel for the sound and pushed the limits for that time.

Just saw this Flower Power post today. Looked for a photo of the band but couldn't find one. I did find a blog that claimed they recorded some tracks in Texas that still have never been released.
Their remake of Love's "Orange Skies" is actually harder than the original. I can easily see "Trivialities" and "Don't Burn My Wings" being covered by an alt.country band today.
Never heard of the Tune-Kel label, but then I'm far from an expert on the NO music scene.
I may post some LA bands sometime.
