Elvis '56

Photographs by Alfred Wertheimer

Between songs, Elvis relaxes and cracks a joke

Elvis, in deep concentration, sits on the floor of the recording studio listening to a playback of his latest take of “Don’t Be Cruel.” Everyone was focused on him to await his reaction. RCA Victor Studio 1, New York City July 2

Once inside his suite at the Warwick Hotel, Elvis found an envelope containing dozens of fan letters that were sent to him which he proceeded to read. March 17

Going Home. Elvis on the Southern Railroad between Chattanooga and Memphis, Tenn. July 4

He began as a musician

At one time he was a member of Joey Dee & The Starliters, who had a #1 hit with "Peppermint Twist", although I don't know if he appears on that track.

Kafka, are you a Lou Reed fan? I am not sure how I feel about him.

I don't just post pics of people I'm a fan of. Otherwise I would never have posted those fellows with Groucho.

But as to your question. The Velvet Underground is one of tGOAT American bands. There are some nice tracks on Reed's very early solo albums, but after the first few years he basically coasted on his rep for 4 decades.

I almost forgot, this is a pic thread...

I scanned through and didn't see a picture of the million dollar quartet - sorry if duplicate:

L to R: Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash

(Hell, today, it would a billion.)

Patsy Cline, Bill Monroe, Minnie Pearl, Jim Reeves, Faron Young and Grandpa Jones.

Jerry Lee and his cousin. . . I mean, bride.

Must have been a nice wedding. In attendance, J. Jett, D. Harry, D. Johansen and J. Ramone.
