About to pick up a Peavey Valveking II 20 watt combo amp. Sold off a boutique amp for a nice little profit so now I'm going with the Peavey because the damn thing is just as good and only 1/4 the price.

Tons of gain on this little booger.

I thought that too for a long time, but this amp sounds just as good as the boutique $2,000 amp I just sold.

Really excited for this purchase.

Be prepared for a number of posters to tell you it's shite because it's not the absolute top shelf, largest, and most expensive product.

Buddy of mine uses that regularly on his gigs in N.O., and he gets props for his sound. Congrats - great buy.

Peavey as good as a $2,000 boutique?

Solid amp though. Congrats.

Nothing wrong with a PV. The VK line of amps is made in China, but my experience with them is that they are still better than other MIC crap.

The knocks on them are 1)the tubes mounted directly to circuit boards, although if you don't gig this amp regularly and leave it on and cooking for hours at a time it should not be an issue and 2)the plastic instrument input jacks. If you'll be using it for apartment/bedroom jamming not a big deal just use care when plugging in because they can break easily.

You are the same guy who said the Squier CV was crap so I'll take that as "Anything that doesn't cost a grand is junk."

He gigs with a 20W amp? I'd have thought that was a little small, but I guess if the room isn't huge???

I've had pretty decent luck w/Peavey equipment. Then again, I'm deaf in one ear, have been playing guitars for years, and still suck, so, that pretty much tells you about my ability to properly rate stuff.

Ceriatone Overtone Special 50W combo.

(Lets be honest, I'm not that good to need such a boutique amp, nor will a bar band ever be able to tell a difference in tone.)

For the record, I play an American strat with two humbuckers and and regular American strat.

In the loop I have a volume pedal, Dunlop Cry Baby, delay pedal and a tuner.

Amp has a three channel foot switch.

Guitar goes straight into amp.

Saw on Instagram that today is Peavey's 50th anniversary.

To be fair, this Valveking 20W and a Squier in the hands of someone that actually knows how to use it can still absolutely smoke on a rig like that. Will it sound like someone playing an American Deluxe Strat through a Blackface Super Reverb Cranked with an Analogman King of Tone through the front end of it? Absolutely not. You know how many people are actually competent enough on guitar to use a boutique rig like that to it's fullest potential? Not very many.
