Overanalyzing a modern Country Song

I came across the Rascal Flatts Song "These Days" a few days ago. It is a great example how popular songwriters don't even think about the words they write. Here is what the chorus says.
I wake up and tear drops
They fall down like rain
I put on that old song we danced to and then
I head off to my job
Guess not much has changed
Punch the clock
Head for home
Check the phone, just incase
Go to bed
Dream of you
That's what I'm doing these days
So think about that for a moment. In the song he is speaking to his college sweetheart from YEARS ago. YEARS! He wakes up and cries his eyes out EVERY morning. He then listens to their song before he goes to work. Comes home and checks the phone to see if she has called and then goes to sleep so he can dream about her. This psychotic routine every day for YEARS since college!
There is nothing sweet about this song. This dude is bat crap crazy. He needs to be in an institution. She needs to be placed in witness protection ASAP.

Remember that God awful one called "Beachin" that came out about three years ago? Was about cocaine.

I made a thread like this a while back but it must've been A WHILE back because I don't see it in my history. The one that really drove me over the edge was "sounds like life to me" by daryl worley.
Ok so right off the bat, this friend is getting overwhelmed and he's in a major tough spot right now. He needs a buddy or a companion or SOMEONE to lend him an ear and a shoulder. But badass daryl over here basically tells him "suck it up, that's life!". Frick you pal.
But that's not where the madness ends. Johnny Ray is clearly a recovering alcoholic, it's the first thing Sarah says on the phone. They presumably have 2 cars, 1 of which is on its last leg. Their washing machine quit, so that's another popup expense that is also a necessity. His aging mother is now in a home. They have 3 kids, one of which is about to be hell on the parents. Come to find out they now have a FOURTH little one on the way...oh not to mention this guy hasn't had much work. This is a major issue here as this guy's world is practically crumbling all around him. So what is this supposedly good friend's solution? HE ORDERS A ROUND...FOR AN ALCOHOLIC. That's not a cause to celebrate you dumbass, it's pretty much the worst thing you could actually do in that situation!!!
FRICK YOU WORLEY
quote:
Got a call last night from an old friend’s wife
Said I hate to bother you
Johnny Ray fell off the wagon
He’s been gone all afternoon
I know my buddy so I drove to Skully’s
And found him at the bar
I say hey man, what’s going on
He said I don’t know where to start
Sarah’s old car’s about to fall apart
And the washer quit last week
We had to put momma in the nursing home
And the baby’s cutting teeth
I didn’t get much work this week
And I got bills to pay
I said I know this ain’t what you wanna hear
But it’s what I’m gonna say
[Chorus]
Sounds like life to me it ain’t no fantasy
It’s just a common case of everyday reality
Man I know it’s tough but you gotta suck it up
To hear you talk you’re caught up in some tragedy
It sounds like life to me
Well his face turned red and he shook his head
He said you don’t understand
Three kids and a wife depend on me
And I’m just one man
To top it off I just found out
That Sarah’s 2 months late
I said hey bartender set us up a round
We need to celebrate

The ticket in Dallas has a segment every now and then called Fun with Country Music where they basically rip to shreds a bro country song. Here's some of them...I would start at the bottom and work your way up...The Luke Bryan "that's my kind of knight" had me in tears.

I normally can't stand Corby but this segment always delivers.

That segment made me laugh pretty hard. Good stuff.
