I'm hoping The War on Drugs gets added to the lineup.

Yeah, I really liked Lost in the Dream but I heard they suck live

I think they'd be awesome to see in a smaller venue. At a large festival I could see it being disappointing. There's just a lot going on in the songs, and it would depend on how well the mixing is done. Some of the slower simpler songs would likely sound just fine, like Suffering and Eyes to the Wind.
The stuff I've seen of them live sounds solid though:
This is from Jimmy Fallon: LINK
and their KEXP set on youtube is pretty fricking good.

Hmmmm. They should just rename it the N.O. "Music" & Heritage Festival since "Jazz" seems to be a relatively minor element.
"Jazz". Fest would be a quaint little Festival if it kept to its initial commitment to Jazz/Blues /Gospel & local music.

There is still a lot of jazz in the smaller tents. No modern day jazz act has headlining power. Even Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea don't play the main Acura stage.

Sure the WWOZ(?) Jazz stage has some 1st rate Jazz(from what I remember years ago)..
There is no Jazz musician that can generate that amount of interest when once they were among the most popular musicians in the world.
I was just bemoaning the death of Jazz commercially. Its only surviving because of a hardcore fan base that understands its artistic relevance/importance..

I'd agree that there aren't many new artists making headlines, but from my experience there is a resurgence in interest with 70s fusion. A lot of younger people who are into jam bands are also getting into classic stuff from that time period like the A Tribute to Jack Johnson/ On the Corner funkified era of Miles Davis, Return to Forever, Donny Hathaway, Billy Cobham, and especially Headhunters-era Herbie Hancock. Even stuff like Grant Green and Wes Montogomery.

Good observation. That's the problem with Jazz unfortunately that dead Jazz artists sell more records & draw more interest overall than live/contemporary ones.. I even find myself stocking up on Mingus/Monk/Ellington, etc....& have to force myself to seek out & support young artist.
I was stunned when Hancock won Record of the Year(Not Jazz but overall Record of the Year) , but the album only sold 50,000 copies & much of it was post Grammy interest. (50-100,000 copies is almost unheard of in Jazz .)
From my limited observation is a "Jam Band" Rocks version of Jazz like improvisation?

Correct. Some bands like Medeski Martin & Wood and Soulive (both trios) blend the line between rock and jazz
