prices starting at 250 dollars for a cover band?
lol
i need to start a hambland and get in on some of this money
To be fair the face value is only $30. Scalpers are selling for $250, not the band.

that lineup is better than Coachella

Maybe
I don't think I have ever seen Tame Impala and Portugal. The Man on the same bill. They are similar sounding bands, I wonder if they purposely avoid playing the same gig.

I may just not be understanding what you're trying to say but I don't see why that would matter since festivals and venue shows do this all the time.

It's just an observation, not a conspiracy theory. I've just always associated the two bands with each other, as they are arguably the two top neo-psychedelic rock bands today. You would think they would be on festival lineups together but it always seems like one or the other makes an appearence. I'm sure they might have played the same festival before but I can't recall one.

Oh I see. I thought you were saying that booking similar bands on the same bill in general was strange
quote:Definitely agree with you here. Portugal. The Man was great when I saw them. I really look forward to seeing Tame Impala this summer. I'm just kinda bummed it will most likely be a daytime show.

I don't really know shite about Portugal the Man but I always thought Temples sounded like exactly like Tame Impala
I never really got into that whole 60s revamp psychedelic rock sound much. Tame Impala kind of bores me.

No he's saying that he thinks they're the same people, kinda like you never see Bruce Wayne and Batman in the same place.
Honestly, it's a pretty dumb theory.

I thought you were a self-described child of the sixties?

90s ftw
Killer acid and ecstasy, primo Phish, Radiohead at the top of their game, shoegaze, the rave scene, exponentially better hip hop, Bill Clinton, etc...

The early rave warehouse scene must have been so fricking badass
I watched a documentary or two about it a few months ago. It was like the acid tests in SF on a much wider scale, with much better music being played.
You seen that clip of some rave in Millwaukee or somewhere in Wisconsin where one of the dudes from Daft Punk just like shows up and spins for a while? Like the same month that Homework was released.
So awesome

Yeah, that scene has always intrigued me. Same with the late 80s Madchester:
quote:
The Second Summer of Love is a name given to the period in 1988–89 in Britain, during the rise of acid house music and the euphoric explosion of unlicensed MDMA-fuelled rave parties. The term generally refers to the summers of both 1988 and 1989 when electronic dance music and the prevalence of the drug MDMA fuelled an explosion in youth culture culminating in mass free parties and the era of the rave. LSD was also widely available and popular again. The music of this era fused dance beats with a psychedelic, 1960s flavour, and the dance culture drew parallels with the hedonism and freedom of the Summer of Love in San Francisco two decades earlier. Similarities with the Sixties included fashions such as Tie-dye. The smiley logo is synonymous with this period in the UK.

quote:Yea, to me that's kinda in the same vein as the early rave scene. The Brits as usual did it better than us though.

Wasn't McClinton on the bill last year and got sick or something?
