Lana just dropped her best album to date. Lana forgoes the sounds of her previous two albums that were rife with collaborations and goes back to the whimsical, gloomy, psychedelic piano tunes that made her famous. This time with guitar! All of the singles are fantastic and have been out for a bit now, so most are probably familiar with them. The standout non single for me is California.

Despite the vibe the album gives off, lyrically this has to be Lana's happiest album yet. More than once on the album she combats the notion that she is a walking hourglass dripping with sadness ("You took my sadness out of context"). She laments for the culture of the past while still celebrating aspects of Americana culture that she has been adjoined to for so long now. Surprisingly, this is a non political album. She is a vocal Trump critic, but didn't succumb to the powers that be. The closest she gets to a political statement is a knock on Kanye West. The American flag flies high on the album art.

Listening for the first time - I already love the 3 songs that have been out for a while (Venice Bitch, Mariners, Hope Is a Dangerous Thing) and really like the overall vibe halfway through.

I'm excited to see her in concert in 5 weeks, have no idea what to expect.

Also funny bit I read in an article released yesterday. What a life when you're a creepy little old bald guy like Moby and you routinely date hot 20-25 year olds hoping to catch a break:

quote:

• She addresses the date with Moby that Moby wrote about in his memoir, which happened in 2006 when Lana was still going by Lizzy Grant, saying that’s basically what happened. (What happened is that, during the date, Lana called him “The Man,” as in “the person they guillotine in the revolution.”) “I don’t know how he [expletive] remembers,” Lana told NYT. “…He must have a mind like a steel trap. I don’t even remember what was going on. I think I was a backup singer and I was opening for people and yeah, we went on a date.”

Love Song may be the best song on the album. Overall, it’s a fantastic album.

All of her albums are great - ultraviolence has been my favourite LDR album but this one might surpass it

Can't stop listening to this. Easily my favorite of 2019 so far. I've always been hit or miss with her albums but the more folk/psychedelic style of this one brings out the best of her.
