Ehh I thought it was alright. Lupe has just gone downhill for me lately and he didn't bring it back up with this

i hope food and liquor 2 is half as good as 1 because that will mean it's 5x better than lasers or whatever shite he put out last.

F&L1 is where it's at.

I really like the message behind the song but honestly I just didn't think the song itself was very good.

But I do have to ask myself.... How many other rappers out there even know what a double entendre is? He speaks an excellent point throughout the song, some ways are obvious as in his speaking out about the social stigmas placed against black females and also a little less obviously is the failure to strive for intelligence among rappers and other members of the "hood/thug" counter culture.

i don't think there's much doubt that Lupe may be the most intelligent rapper both in general and when it comes to lyric writing. he's amazing at what he does. i just hope the rest of the cd isn't on par with this because then it will just be another "meh" effort

I'm sure y'all agree, but I respect the hell out of the guy for being one of the very few popular rappers out there who consistently puts out a positive message.

Yup. Unfortunately his album sales suffer because of it. My favorite Lupe song is Intruder Alert from The Cool. Amazing song LINK

A great story of the woman who was raped and has now found a man who wants to love her and how she begins to open her heart again. Then the verse about the addict who has given up and given in to his addiction. Finally, the verse about the loving father who, in order for her to have a better life, is sending his daughter to America via homemade raft in hopes that she can have a better life. Powerful, powerful song, ESP the last verse.

lupe has a knack for doing that. 'dumb it down' is lyrically my favorite track from 'the cool', but i would rather hear 'hip hop saved my life'
