I don't really like it. Drums sounds programmed. After Portnoy left, the band seemed to go to crap. Black Clouds and Silver Linings is the last album I liked from them.

Mike 2 is so robotic it's not even funny.

Agreed. I wish they had picked Thomas Lang or even Marco Minneman.

So damn talented. This guy was the energy they needed. Talk about putting a spark back into that band.

Absolutely. If you are interested in other drummers who have aton of energy like him, check out Aric Improta. That dude is nuts live.

That really surpassed my initial expectations for this album. It has a distinct SDOIT sound to it, which is a good thing. I still think this album is going to be a total cheese fest based on the song titles they have released.
Portnoy is definitely missed.

That is what I am predicting as well. It is sad. I liked the last James Labrie releases more than the past 2 DT releases.

JP has lost it when it comes to lyrics on the past few albums.
Here is a rolling stone article detailing how much work they put into this album. LINK

I couldn't agree more.

There's no doubt that Portnoy (along with Kevin Moore) was the most creative member of DT. Mangini is insanely talented from a pure technical standpoint but he lacks the creativity, especially in cymbal work and linear rhythms that Portnoy provided. I'm not a huge DT fan anymore but I used to be pretty big into them.

I thought that the last two albums were pretty damn good but I do agree about the mechanical nature of Mangini.
I just hope JL keeps putting out more albums his stuff is awesome. I prefer Marco Sfogli to JP and Matt Guillory on the keyboards is an amazing songwriter.
