My Dad Met James Brown Once

My dad used to work as the Medical Director of the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home.
One of his patients was James Brown's biological father.
One day, James Brown showed up to visit his dad. He met my dad and handed him a $100 bill. My dad wouldn't take it and had to explain that he was on a salary and didn't take cash payments. So James Brown gave my dad an autographed calender instead.
My dad's impression of him was that he was "childlike."
I never met James Brown, but when I was a route manager for the Augusta Chronicle I delivered a route with James Brown's recording studio on it.
They never paid and I got stiffed.
I think he stiffed the IRS too. He may have been the king of soul but he had no understanding of business.
My favorite James Brown song is "Dooley's Junkyard Dawgs." Never released on CD, you can find it on youtube.

a buddy of mine cleaned carpets at james brown's estate many years back. he never actually saw JB in person, but he said he could always count on one of his handlers giving him a fat joint before entering the house

My mom met James Brown on a flight to London in the mid-80's. She was with my aunt and those two were quite the couple to hang out with. My mom and my aunt said when he and his bodyguard walked by them in the plane, they both stood up and sang "I feel good" and did the dance that went with it. JB stopped his bodyguard, and proceeded to dance a jig with my mom and aunt. Unfortunately there are no recordings of this event.

My Dad was a cop in the 60's and worked a James Brown concert not long after there had been a riot at one of his previous shows.
