Music board peeps who play at their church:

I feel you on the lack of melody. Every singer wants to sing the most obscure harmony and thinks its beneath them to sing melody.

But we have the opposite problem with piano. There is one, but they never want to play it, they play the keyboard instead (usually on the piano setting no less). Meanwhile, there's 4 guitars every week.

I feel you on this. I've played for an all contemporary church and a traditional church with a contemporary service.

The contemporary only did a good job of mixing in some of the better old hymns as prayer responses or with more updated instrumentation/arrangements.

The traditional with a contemporary service won't touch a hymn with a ten foot pole.

And you're absolutely right on lyrics. Lots of contemporary church music today is absolutely bankrupt in that department.

Do you enjoy being in an isolated booth? I'm in one now and because of the acoustics of the sanctuary I understand why ( used to be the traditional sanctuary, giant ceiling, hard surfaces, etc.)

I liked it better being out in the middle of the band where I could here everything ambiently though and they trusted me to control my volume level accordingly.
