Ever heard Joseph Bologne’s music. He is considered the black Mozart. I can’t pick between Mozart and Beethoven, I love them both too much.

Definitely Gottschalk. I bought all the CD’s I could years ago, before even having a CD player. I also have his piano sheet music. He must have had a 12 inch span between pinkie and thumb with hand spread open!!!

They're both fine artists, but neither can hold a candle to Brahms or Mahler, IMHO.

I would have agreed with that when I was 21 years old and taking music appreciation at LSU. I loved Beethoven's music as well.

However, as I've matured greatly and listened to reams of music both popular and "classical", I no longer consider these famous composers anywhere close to the greatest at their craft. I put on a couple of CDs of orchestral music last night by an unknown Norwegian composer named Johan Svendsen. I was absolutely amazed at the excellence and beauty of these works, especially his two symphonies. Whether or not they can be considered "greater" than works by the more famous artists is up for debate, but one thing is sure: I really like the Svendsen works better.
