Post rock band (defined it to be honest if you want to call it a genre which is I guess you could say rock that focuses on melody and generally but not always is all instrumental) from Glasgow, anybody else on here like them? Been my favorite band for many years now. I think I first got into them in the days of Napster (or Kazaa, or something?) and discovering them turned me on to a world of other bands as it goes.
I do think their albums have gotten worse over time though. Happy Songs is the best overall, but Young Team being the most epic. They are known for a soft/loud contrasting dynamic and focus on melody, but what made their earlier stuff so great seems to be lacking in the newer albums.
Anywho, if you've never heard of them see
Helicon 1 - favorite song of theirs, vid set to atomic bombs
Mogwai Fear Satan - From MYT, their most epic imo
2 Rights Make 1 Wrong - From Rock Action, an album that actually had a few vocal tracks (ish)
Kids Will Be Skeletons - from Happy Songs, shows their progression and maturity

And I'm not, but if I ever were to get a tattoo I'd get the Mogwai Young Team symbol. I have it on a shirt that looks awesome but alas i grew and it shrunk so it's my son's now.
It looks badass, and if people ask what it is I can say "Let me tell you about Mogwai, this incredible Scottish band that you need to check out..."

Listen to them (and a whole slew of other post rock bands) almost daily. I enjoy all of their stuff, but I like the different feel they bring in Hawk is Howling and, to a lesser degree, in Rave Tapes.

Yep. They've been a favorite of mine since I first heard Ten Rapid back in the late 90's. I have fond memories of listening to that album repeatedly on bus trips to basketball games in high school.
Edit: thanks for the inspiration. Haven't listened to this in a while.

Young Team and CODY are classic. Year 2000 Non-Compliant Cardia is my personal favorite track.

Very jealous of the Ten Rapid LP above, and cheers to you for owning it.
Can't tell you the influence of this band on me, introducing me to the fact that more music exists out there than what I was normally accustomed too. Got me into Sigur Ros and GY!BE which i guess are in the same vein, to other branches like Dntel, Boards of Canada, Built to Spill, etc. Mogwai kind of pressed "play" for me.
Some more vids for those venturing off into the Mogwai world:
Take Me Somewhere Nice - From Rock Action, and one of the few tracks with vocals
Stanley Kubrick - From Mogwai EP, one of their earlier ones, and I think this was the song that I originally clicked download on and introduced me to them
Mogwai Fear Satan (Mogwai Remix) - From their Kicking a Dead Pig remix album. This was on disc 2 which was nothing but remixes of Fear Satan, but was done by them and is the best on there. Took their most epic song, and then remixed it, made it totally new, and epic in it's own right (listen with the subs turned up for the second half)
Superheroes of BMX - Very different sound for them, way more electronic and beat rather than melody oriented but an awesome song
Tracy - From Young Team, great song from there. When you do some digging it turns out the vocals you hear on there are a sound recording of a phone conversation regarding a fight between Stuart and Dominic (2 of the band members). Not important, but just factoid
CODY (Come On Die Young) - From the album of the same name, another of their few tracks with vocals but awesome and sad song
Tracy (Kid Loco remix) - Not Mogwai, and arguably better than the orginal, a remix from the Kicking a Dead Pig album

Also they are known for contributing to various soundtracks (get into them enough and watch enough documentaries and you'll pick up on them).
Notably working with Clint Mansell on The Fountain soundtrack and a doc on Zinedine Zidane, my favorite song from that being 7:25

The Zidane score and doc was a brilliant idea and thoroughly enjoyable.
