Would it be possible to get a mini/micro amp to plug into with a guitar and also double it as a turntable speaker? What components would I need to do this?

Out of the amp, I would like the option to plug into it and play so I only I can hear it through headphones, as well, when some quiet practice is necessary.

To get more specific, I am looking at a u-turn (or something similar) turntable and would like to be able to use a guitar amp as the speaker, if possible.

Is this a terrible idea? Feasible?

Also, any suggestions on a mini/micro for this use or general use?

"Terrible" is subjective, but this isn't a good idea, IMHO.

A bass amp can make a decent external speaker/amp for a keyboard, but a guitar amp is a reasonably specialized piece of equipment that I would not want to press it into duty as anything else.

Virtually every practice amp will have this functionality.

I would wire your turntable separately, maybe a FRFR speaker you can scale up with a modelling or recording monitoring setup down the line.

I've got one of the little Orange Crush, Battery powered guitar amps, and it's a great electric guitar practice amp, and you can plug headphones into it.

I don't think it would work very well for a turntable though.

I was looking at these. I love how it looks. Aesthetics are important for this project for me, as I'm trying to build out a little centerpiece for my living room

I was just noticing, my Fender Mustang modeling I amp has a small headphone jack also. For using at home, that's the better bet. The little Orange Crush amp is just something I have, to use in the sleeper of my truck.

Why don't you send your guitar's signal through your stereo system? There are numerous videos available on YouTube.

Why do you need a headphone amp for an acoustic? If you want to play along with music, pull up the songs on you tube or on saved drive on a laptop or desktop with decent speakers and play along.

That being said, look at Fishman portable acoustic amps. Great versatile units for the $$%.

I don't think his guitar has been delivered yet. I don't think he realizes yet, what kind of capabilities that thing is going to have.
I think using an amp with that guitar, might end up being detrimental. I thought he might be thinking about an electric.

The more I find out about those Transacoustics, the more I want one.

An amp made for use with a guitar would sound like shite if you hooked a turntable up to it.

I did, too. You can't really have quiet practice with an acoustic, can you? And if you can, you wouldn't need the amp, would you?

I think that is one of those things that is great in theory and mixed results in practice, but I have no direct experience with any such thing.

I would look at keyboard amps instead of guitar amps that can double as a turn table speaker or guitar amp if need be. The tiny guitar amps don't have the low end that you will need for your turn table.

I have only watched some youtube videos of players playing it, and read about it. I haven't gotten to try one out yet. I just can't see Yamaha, actually putting out such a thing, if it wasn't up to snuff. They take their reputation pretty seriously.

Lol yes, I have the bug and am looking at cheap electrics for quiet practicing. My SO has been very patient with me, but I know it drives her nuts hearing my doink chords all the time

I'm not sure I would do that to yourself - find a lightly used Yamaha Pacifica. That's a guitar you can keep forever and is an insanely good value.

It's basically the Seagull of electric guitars now, from a value standpoint.

I have an orange micro terror (head and cabinet stack). Has an aux in that you can plug a small headphone jack into from your audio source (I’m sure they have Bluetooth converters nowadays but you can still find old school converters).

Also is loud AF for its size guitar amp. I use it to play YouTube backing tracks and play along

It also looks awesome.

Yeah I have only run external audio through headphones, not the 8 inch cab.

But again, the little mini stack looks awesome which he said was a concern. Might not be the most practical or best sound but it will function.

Absolutely hands down the best looking one I have seen. I personally love it and think it'd be great to display on my little turntable island area.

You guys have given me exactly the input I have been looking for and for that I thank you

I have read you can get a certain type of pre-amp that will level out the sounds to make the amp sound better when streaming music through it. Any truth to this? BS?
