I have the opportunity to get one of these locally with no damage and the original, Martin branded case for $850.

Don't really need it but it seems to be a really good deal for a solid wood Martin.

Anyone ever owned or played one of these? From the research I've done online, it seems like they're even made in the USA.

According to the Martin website, they're discontinued and the list price is over $2k Martin website

There are some listed on Reverbthat all seem to be north of $1,000.

Martin - check
Solid rosewood back and sides - check
Solid sitka top - check

$850 - go for it

As Thom Yorke said “Sometimes the nicest thing to do with a guitar is just look at it”.

Buy it, and if nothing else, take it out and look at it now and then.

Man..I have a lot of guitars, I mean a lot, I've guitars in the pile that I haven't seen in 20 years, most are junk, but I bought them for nothing, but there are a few gems in there too. Nowadays though, even the junk will bring money if it looks cool.
Point is, you make your money on used stuff, when you buy it, not when you sell it. That sounds like a good buy.

Isn't the the right Martin case worth roughly half that price?

I think they run close to $400 new.

I have two other non Martin solid rosewood/spruce dreads so basically just buying this one because its a good deal.

Will keep it around till I get tired of it then post on Reverb or Facebook Marketplace, or possibly sell one of my others and keep it if its better.

Congrats.Looks like my D 28.

Same wood.Maybe different bracing.I don't know.

So fun to play.

Best investment I've ever made.

You got robbed!!

J/k. Wonder why they sold it so cheap? Just in a bind? DIDNT know what they had?

Your gain. Isn’t it basically a D28 without back binding in the center? A lot dumber things you can drop $850 on.

Not sure.

From browsing some old guitar forums and such it seems as if they used to go for $800 or so used consistently but for some reason cost more now. Perhaps that is due to the Road Series filling that price point or because they've now been discontinued.

I think maybe they have a different bracing pattern than the D28, I put some new strings on it today, its definitely a lot brighter sounding than most Martins I've played, almost more of a Taylor sound.

Posted it on Facebook Marketplace for $1300 earlier and will see if I get any bites.

ETA: It also has a Richlite fretboard and doesn't have a bone nut and saddle so thats some of the differences.
