Major guitar score this morning. I'm having a hard time believing it happened.

I traded my Classic Vibe Mustang even for a made in Japan, 87 Squire Strat in excellent condition.
It's got 1 small paint chip and absolutely zero fret wear. I just got it home and plugged it in, and everything is working like new. (Fretshack, you're right again about the pickups, they're really good!)
Can't believe that guy made this trade, I guess he just wanted something new.
Oh, it had an original Fender molded case too.

Yeah man, I sent you an email about it.
The good news for you though is, they've started making them in lake Placid blue, since I bought that one.

Wow that pretty much describes my electric I got when I was a kid and still have. Had no idea it was potentially a sought after thing. Its not a squire though just a regular Stratocaster.

Yeah, the Japanese Fender and Squier stuff is really good.
If yours is the Fender model it's worth even more, depending on condition of course.
I would put the value of this one that I traded for, at just around 800 bucks. I was only asking $350 for the Mustang.

Same. Not exactly certain of the year but certainly mid-80s in Lake Placid Blue. Ive put countless hours on it, but it's not without its faults -- It's noisy and it has a hard time staying in tune. Looking at it, I may have changed out the pickups but I know I have the originals somewhere.

It definitely now looks like it has some mileage on it.

That's the color of this one too. It's a really great color.

Got a lefty '87 Japanese Strat that I'm quite fond of. That was a great year for Fender.

This one seems to be really good. I'm gonna play it some more tonight.
Fretshack gave me a lot good info that I didn't know. The pickups were probably made by Gotoh, and I didn't even know they made pickups.
I did know that the U.S. fender factory burned down around 83-84, and almost all of the Strats were made in Japan for a while.
I don't know if it's true, but according to some people, the Squier Standard model from that time is identical to the Fender model. This is the first one I've owned and I haven't started taking it apart yet.

I'm not sure about the fire, but in 1985 Bill Shultz's group bought CBS out but not the Corona factory, so for a short time in 1985, the only Fender factory was in Japan. I think this was the case until the new factory was built.

And yeah Lake Placid Blue is a great color, still my favorite color of the strats I own.

You know, you are right, it wasn't a fire, it was because the employees bought the company but had to build a new factory. The sale didn't include the Fullerton factory.
The fire happened later in Mexico.

Mines gotta be that year or maybe 1-2 earlier. Haven’t messed with it at all gear wise original everything. Not much wear and tear from playing just packing it everywhere I went from HS-post college. White on crème.
