yeah I don't even know why rock was brought up here, as far as "america's music" is concerned rock is young as shite

and the 12 bar isn't even that old either, almost all american musical styles can be traced back to call and response style "reels," kind of a drawn out hymn/work song/preachin that slowly molded into the blues when black singers started responding to themselves with their instruments instead of a congregation

Had a sociology professor once who's area of expertise was blues and southern culture. He claimed the birthplace of modern "America's Music" to be Mississippi. He was from Colorado, if that makes a difference.
