Kind of a dark folk song

Tommy Thompson’s Thompson

Well Arthur Thompson went to France, in 1917,
With his little brother Tommy by his Side,
Yeah they armed him with a Thompson, and he kept it nice and clean,
‘Til a German bullet caught him and he died,

Tommy looked down at his brother,
As he saw the Germans come,
Then he knelt and closed his staring eyes,
As he grabbed his Tommy Gun...

Well his finger pulled the trigger,
As he let the bullets fly,
He could feel the heat as the barrel blazed with light,
In the fury of the muzzle flash,
He watched them fall and die,
As the gunsmoke filled the air that fateful night,
But there was only one man standing,
When the madness all was done,
And he was holding Tommy Thompson’s Thompson gun...

Well Tommy came home all alone, to the hills of Tennessee,
With medals on his chest and time to think,
And he learned to turn corn into gold, til the teetotalers won,
Turned his pastime to a crime, but folks want drink,

As Tommy weighed his options,
To submit or to live free,
‘Cause his brother didn’t die,
For teetotaler’s tyranny,

With his foot upon the pedal,
And his trunk filled up with shine,
Engine rumbling as he drove on in the night,
In the seat sat there beside him,
Was his trusty Tommy gun,
Always prepared but never looking for a fight,
And any man that dared to cross him,
Would regret what they had done,
If he was holding Tommy Thompson’s Thompson gun,

And in the backrooms barkeeps sold Ol’ Tommy’s Shine,
Where even senators were known to raise a glass,
And in the hills of Tennessee, through copper lines,
He made his fortune, running whiskey through the pass,
But the revenue man, with his Pinkertons in tow,
Well the wanted Tommy bad oh don’t you know.

Oh don’t you know...

They started up his mountain on a moonlit autumn night,
Yeah they aimed to take Ol’ Tommy by surprise,
But he’d learned some things in France, and when they walked into the wires,
The holler echoed out with dynamite,

Tommy woke up from his nightmares,
To the sound of Pinkertons,
From the wall, by Arthur’s picture,
He took down his Thompson gun,

Well his finger pulled the trigger,
As he let the bullets fly,
He could feel the heat as the barrel blazed with light,
In the fury of the muzzle flash,
He watched them fall and die,
As the gunsmoke filled the air that fateful night,
But there was only one man standing,
When the madness all was done,
And he was holding Tommy Thompson’s Thompson gun...

Yeah he was holding Tommy Thompson’s Thompson gun.

Any artists want to help? It’s an interesting story.

I mean I just finished it. I have an idea of the tempo and rhythm but I’m not married to it. I usually just start out with an idea and lyrics and just fill in the gaps. A friend suggested I give the board a shot and see what happened.

I think you need to add a couple of lines to the second verse. I recorded a demo of the first 2 verses and adlibbed a couple of lines to the second verse. Tommy
