I recently sold my Kemper and I am now on the hunt for a new amp. I play a lot of Gilmour, Hendrix,Srv, and Gary Moore type stuff. The amps I'm looking at are a Victoria Bassman clone, 66 Super Reverb, Marshall Bluesbreaker, and a Reeves Custom 50 hiwatt clone. I really would love a 4x10 so either the bassman or the super reverb are my faves. Do they take muff type pedals well? Anybody played any of these and have an opinion. Thanks.

I know you cant go wrong with either amp. I really want that fender reverb that the bassman doesn't have, but I think the bassman might handle pedals better.

I vote Super Reverb and a few pedals. Rather than pursuing a reissue Super Reverb (about $1500 street), maybe consider getting an original tranny silverface Super Reverb and have it recapped, gone through for replacement of any drifting or dying components? I just did a Reverb price guide search and for what you'd pay for a RI, you should be able to buy a real '68 drip edge SFSR ... and drip edges tend to be BF circuits with SF cosmetics because they were so early in the SF transformation. The Reverb price guide said current used market is $790-1465. That leaves budget balance for a reputable amp tech to do his magic, and you'll have a better amp (the reissues break up too quickly and aren't as "warm" IMHO) and it's already depreciated as much as its going to.

Also, you can breathe INCREDIBLE live into a SF Fender in general with a speaker upgrade. The factory Oxford speakers, even in great condition, generally sound like cheap low-fi garbage when A/B'ed with more efficient, modern speakers. Jensen C10Q reissues, for example, are light years better than original Oxfords and they street for about $55 each.

I found a beautiful 68 in mint condition. The guy says it's still a blackface circuit. It was just been serviced and still has the stock speakers for 1400. I can prob get him to come down a bit off that as well. There is also the 66 I'm eyeing that's in good shape for the same price. I don't play alot of fuzz pedals, but I do when im getting my floyd on and I fear they wont get along, due to both being mid scooped.

I say go with a Vibrolux, sacrificing 2 speakers for the benefit of not needing hernia surgery in the future.
