According to Billboard, Linkin Park has a staggering 23 titles on the Hot Rock Songs chart for the week dated Aug. 12. That’s an even bigger showing than David Bowie had following his unexpected passing in January 2016.

As rock and roll slowly dies off over the next 20 or so years, will this be the swan song? The blip of nostalgia and death news driven sales of online tracks to mark each passing?

Better than a headstone, I suppose.

Wasn't Disco supposed to do that? And then Rap?

Nah, R&R will live. Actually playing instruments and composing music instead of some overpaid karaoke singer will continue to live.

When they were the biggest band on the planet was when most of the mellinials were pre-teens to college kid. So it's not surprising they still have a massive fan base.

I can count on one hand the amount of time I walked into a house for a party or hopped in a buddies car and linkin park was playing. Always were put in the same bucket as nickelback by the people I know. Not saying -a lot of people didn't listen to them. Obviously they did. Just not around other people.

Sounds like you hang around a bunch of people who care entirely too much what people think. LP was everywhere in the early 2000s.

Rock as we know it may die off, but rock isn't gonna die. Maybe future rock bands won't be as prolific as the bands we grew up with, but really, that's applicable to all genres, save for the handful of artists who cracked the Clear Channel code. Bands who'll adapt to the times in the business sense, as opposed to the old farts crying about a model that's never coming back, will still potentially be able to gain a decent following and earn themselves a respectable living, maybe more than that. Just because some housewife in the Midwest isn't familiar with the name of someone's favorite band in this day and age, it doesn't mean the genre will die off...

they were up there though. and they easily had the most longevity/success out of all the other nu-metal or hybrid bands.

maybe at their absolute peak limp bizkit was more popular, but they died out quick. Linkin Park was much bigger, especially as a pop-music crossover, then bands like korn, RATM, system, etc.

As long as people like Trump are elected to office, rock and punk will live on.
