There was a show on KLSU for a while in the 1990s that focused on unusual music. It started at midnight on either Saturday or Sunday (I forget which) and I used to stay up late to listen to it.

I can still remember pieces of some of the specific songs played as part of that show, but I've never been able to find any of the ones I remember by searching lyrics.

Does anyone else remember this show? And better yet, does anyone have any information about where they got the songs that they played?

Dr. Demento played on Sunday afternoons back then, but the show I'm thinking of is a different one. While Dr. Demento focused on funny songs, this other show was more about strange/surreal ones.

The tagline for this show was something like "music too strange for popular consumption."

In the 80s the late night guys played a lot of Hawkwind and Legendary Pinkdots.

May have been me. I've seen the Pink Dots live several times and the last time was about 2 years ago. Eduard Ka Spel is a genius.

I had never heard any Hawkwind, but I listened to some today while working. Reminds me of Eloy.

That's not what I had in mind (and I only started listening to KLSU in the early 1990s), but I always like discovering new music.

I love the Pink Dots and Hawkwind. I knew some of the punk and metal djs in the 80s and 90s. Drank beer on Saturday nites in the KLSU studio while playing some of my bands tapes over the airwaves. Good times.

In Search of Space, Hall of the Mountain Grill and Silver Machine are my favorite Hawkwind albums.

That was strictly forbidden. I'm reporting this.

Was in about 10 punk, metal, and rock bands back then. None lasted more than a year or two or did much. We would play a couple of gigs on chimes street or at the Art bar or the Tiger and then move on.

KLSU dj's always told us to keep the quarts of beer on the floor. We had to step outside to smoke.

"Hawkwind you frickin queers!" - Bill Mallory RIP

I DJ'd at WLSU and made sure Hawkwind was played because what do you get when a hawk farts?

I'd also play Whippin Post so I could smoke doobies and shotgun beers outside.
