KISS question. Who was their best Musician?

Of the original 4? I know Vincent, Kulick were pretty well thought of 80's metal guitarists.
Iphone shuffle played Parasite yesterday while I was swimming. I noticed the bass line actually had a few notes (not like a Who song) and wondered, "was Gene actually good?
I know KISS generally receives disdain from musical snobbery. They did have some catchy pop rock songs with edge, and off the charts theatrics.
Just wondered who the knowing minds of the MB considered an actual musician? Or close?

Stanley because he was main song writter. Simmons great business man average at best musician. Sometimes I would swear someone else is playing his base lines behind the scenes live. Gene is all about theatrics live.

Have to say Ace was. Because after he left the band the music changed drastically. Not saying bad or good just saying.

Ace Frehley was probably the best musician in the group but threw it all away early.

The best musician in KISS would have to be the late Eric Karr..followed up by Bruce Kullock.

I think it would have to be Ace. He's not an "all-time" lead guitarist, but he held his own.
The main reason I think he's the best, though, is because his solo album as a member of KISS was far and away the best of the four. Had some really good tracks, inclucing "Back in the New York Groove" (which is probably the best one--although I really like "Snow Blind" too).

Why'd he pass?
I just don't see KISS working with others. They were so unique in the act they were putting out. Not the music, but the shows.
I know Rush spent time opening for them.
Just odd to hear them collaborate.

Ace was the best musician, with Peter a close second. Paul & Gene might've written the lion's share of music, but they were hacks at their instruments, comparatively speaking. For various reasons, Peter's skills diminished...if you see any footage of his return during the reunion tour in '96, he was arguably the weakest link at that point, and was probably only included for the financial payday of the "original four" angle. Ace pretty much plateaued in his own right, and is probably still the best musician of the four, but the potential he showed on his '78 solo album was never realized fully....IMO.

I think if read correctly.. he could never get it to Rod's people... so knowing how Peter's voice was similar, he presented it to the band.
I do think Ace was the best musician and he sure influenced a lot of young people. Vincent may have been one of the best writers. And I don't think Paul is a slouch in the studio (he grew into his playing) - his '78 solo albums isn't bad. One thing I do like about Paul is that he will criticize himself. He has stated that the material he wrote for the side four side of Alive II was crap. I don't mind All American Man but I do see his point.
