Note to self: For future reference, a band that dresses up for publicity photos, public appearances or album photos has sold out and sucks donkey dick.
Likewise, if said band records an album that attracts more listeners than its original, precious audience, it has forsaken any shred of musical integrity.
I'd forgotten those important life lessons. I'm glad this thread has straightened me out.

You are truly a fricking retard if you can't grasp the concepts that have been laid out for you in this thread.

Oh I "grasp" it, but, in my opinion, it is no more valid, nor is the "concept" more meaningful, than what I said in my post.

Ok then lets play hypothetical here.
Lets say Kurt Cobain didn't attempt to suck start a 12 gauge and he lived on. Lets also say that in this alternate reality Nirvana releases another album, in which their sound has completely and utterly changed. They no longer attempt to shock any body, their guitars are polished their album is overproduced while Kurt has began singing about some girl whose sex has apparently caught fire. At this same time Kurt, Dave and Kris have all cut their hair and replaced their flannel with Armani suits and designer shades.
Can you understand why the fans would be totally against this?
This is the situation the old fans of KOL are faced with. If you don't have a problem with a change of that magnitude then you weren't a fan to begin with.

did green day "evolve"?
I would respectfully assert that they should have.

Well, first, I'm not trying to be a dick, but I am being a bit of a wiseass for fun. However, I do think the "sell out" charge is often overplayed.
Cool.
Who?
But seriously, I think you're exaggerating what KOL did in your hypothetical with Nirvana. I just don't see it as that extreme.
I think successful bands, for the most part, become the bands that they really want to be. Frankly, I could make an argument that continuing to wear scruffy clothes and playing the same shite as you move past your teens and early twenties is just as phony wearing more expensive clothes and playing more accessible music when you get older.
I enjoy early KOL and later KOL. Earlier I mentioned that as bands become more experienced and better players, experience some success, etc, their sound is going to change to some degree. They may experiment with a more pop sound or a more abstract sound. Whatever.

Seriously, though, what is the problem? Should they remain static? Should they only create art that YOU consider cutting edge?

No.
They should've stayed rock n roll. They should've kept the attitude. They should've stayed different but they gave it up for a paycheck and I can understand that I really can. Everyone deserves to get paid for their work but they sacrificed their artistry to do it and thats not something I can respect.

well it absolutely is.
their songs drastically changed when they went to a major record label, as well at their entire wardrobe and appearance.
remember when metallica cut off all their hair and then wrote shitty music? it's kind of like that

no, that's what the blogger says.
they were poised to be one of the best bands in the country though

They're as much rock n roll as they ever were.

Again, bands become the band they always wanted to be and who were they were destined to be. They haven't "sacrificed" anything, in my opinion.

No no they are not.

And? They didn't make childish music to begin with. If anything the music they make now contains less substance than what they made before.

Don't give me that destiny bullshite. They became the band their paycheck demanded them to be.

Not that "fair" has anything to do with it, but you're not being fair to the guys. You have no idea how sincere or not they were when they wrote their last album.
Look, maybe the problem is that KOL is and always has been just another good and interesting band to me. From the beginning. I like them a lot, but I was never a super fan, nor did I place them on any sort of pedestal.
