I saw them last summer. The Atlanta concert before Caleb walked off the stage in Dallas. It was one of the best concerts I've been to. It was great and Caleb sounded awesome.

I got onto them when the A ha shake album came out. A buddy of mine had it, and I burned a copy. I back-listened to Youth and Young Manhood.
I hear ya. I wasn't pointing out anyone specifically.

Multiple people lied to you. They are EXCELLENT live.
Good to know. I still like them.
As an addendum, while 'Sex on Fire' and 'Use Somebody' are in fact, way overplayed, they are decent songs. Those just happen to be this particular group's flagship bandwagon songs. All the big-name bands have those. And naturally, they will receive some negative feedback for those tracks. Just part of the process.

Saw them back in 2005 in Norfolk Virginia at the norva. 1500 person venue and they put on an awesome show. Closed the set and Caleb slammed the microphone on the stage. It was very rock and roll. I loved it.

Ethan Johns.....
If memory serves me correctly, Ryan Adams' producer and the son of either the great Glyn Johns or Andy Johns (producers and engineers).
Dat boy good!!

Ninety per cent of the discussions about rock bands selling out involve a) journalists needing something to write about, b) musicians trying to maintain some sort of cred that they probably never had and, more importantly, never realizing that the whole concept of "cred" is adolescent, c)reductive reasoning and shitty pot and d) jerk offs trying to sound hip.
Really, in the end it is all . . . I mean fricking ALL . . . pop music. From The Beatles to Velvet Underground to Sex Pistols to The Clash to Nirvana to Kings of Leon. If it sounds good to you, enjoy it, shut the frick up and don't worry about what anybody else thinks. Anyone who seriously argues otherwise is full of shite.

Nope. Talk all you want. I just enjoy pointing out how silly it is if you happen to be sober. Amazingly enough, and it really is amazing, I'm sober tonight.

I'm not sure what a twatter twat is. Does it mean a self important, self-annointed music expert/critic? I figure you would know.

I'm sober.
i didn't call them "sell outs"
but they absolutely changed their sound and appearance drastically.

To quote Jason Newsted "people say we sold out. All I can say yeah we sell out, every seat in the house everytime we play."

I could, if I actually gave a shite, make the case that, as musicians play as a unit longer, many times they become more proficient and, in many case (gasp . . . I know, it's awful) more melodic and interested in going in different directions.

It's called making a living in the music business. The huge majority of bands, no matter how musically credible, perfect an image even if very subtle. What's the big deal?
Posted on 7/2/12 at 10:36 pm to VOR
The problem is they went from making interesting and risky forms of music to sounding like they made music with the intention of being played on the radio.
I can't blame they deserve to make a good living but it sucks all the same for the people who fell in love with their original sound.

I don't know. I'm really not talking so much about KOL as I am about the concept of "selling out". I just think it's ridiculous. You make music to be heard. You write books to be read. You make film to be seen.

they started playing arena pop songs and went away from what their fans loved about them.

it's called cashing in. they changed their sound and look to sell more records. it's a loss of integrity and the band themselves sound like they regret it.

you're missing the point. but I wouldn't expect you to understand it in the first place.
this was them at first:
then they changed:

I hate that term.

In this particular case they were being heard. Probably weren't making any money but they definitely had a decently sized fan base.
However like I said earlier I can't blame them for doing what they had to do to make a living.

dude, they CHANGED THEIR WHOLE LOOK AND SOUND TO SELL RECORDS
I don't know how else to explain that to you.

they were packing out 1500-2000 person venues every night at $20 a head... they were doing ok

How much of that was actually going into their pockets instead of the massive expenses of a tour?
I'm not saying they were going broke but I highly doubt they were just rolling in the dough
Posted on 7/2/12 at 10:46 pm to TheDoc
Then they started selling out amphitheatres and arenas with 20,000 to 50,000 at $30
Just read in 2010 where they sold out Slane Castle in 40 minutes to over 80,000. I think was right after around Come Around Sundown came out.

bands make their money on tour, not through records.
but in 2005-2006, KoL were doing pretty damn good...
they were a buzz band making good rock and roll music
I like the direction of this "devil song"...
THAT'S what KoL is capable of.
