Keyboard for beginner

I usually post on the Outdoor Board about hunting, killing, or cooking critters so please excuse my interruption. I have a 9 yr old that is starting piano lessons and her teacher recommended an 88 key weighted keyboard for her to have at home. I have zero reason to doubt the teacher on the type of keyboard we should purchase. I’ve looked online (Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc) and found options from $300-$1800. My question to the board is whether or not there is another place I should be looking for a keyboard? I have zero musical ability, but my children enjoy it and are fairly well inclined.

Reverb.com is sort of the "eBay" of musicial instruments.
Musicians Friend, Sam Ash and Kraft Music are all very well regarded, music-oriented online stores.
It is a great time to be pondering such a purchase - there are a lot of choices from around $300 to $2500 and a ton of videos comparing the various brand and model choices.

Our son's first keyboard around the same age was a Yamaha too, although I'm not sure you can get weighted keys for $200. I believe there's a model for $400 though.
Once he got a bit proficient we got a refurbished piano from Lafargue in Metairie--they do a great job and provide great service. We later bought a new Korean studio piano from them for not much more.
I hope your kids keep it up! My son ended up going through NOCCA's jazz program on piano and has gotten to play with folks like Jon Cleary, Jon Batiste, most of the Marsalis clan, and been on stage at Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest and others. Music's a great gift for kids, and if they develop a love for it (as many kids will only practice because their parents MAKE them) it can be an amazing journey.

There are a couple of ways you can go, and for sure check out the places Ace mentioned.
For great action, and on-board speakers (which make it feel like more of a real instrument) I’d recommend anything from the Yamaha P Series. Here’s one in your range just doing a quick search Amazon
You can also go the controller route. These are simply just keyboard triggers for any kind of plug-in software using a weighted 88 from a brand like M-Audio. If you have a decently fast computer you can get a piano program like Garriton CFX for less than $200 which sounds amazing. Here’s one for $500 at Guitar Center
Hope that helps you out some.

Looks like Fess in your avatar? I grew up in Louisiana and knew some of his stuff due to Mardi Gras and festivals but never knew who it was or his history.
About 10-15 years ago, I lived in Houston and had a co-worker originally from Louisiana. He listened to some of my piano recordings and said 'That sounds like Professor Longhair'. I had to look him up and loved the sound so much that I learned a few songs. Now I'm embarrassed about not knowing more about him until being an adult.
I think his life would make a great movie with New Orleans as the main setting from the 40s until 1980.
