I've always been a Neil Peart fan, but the more I listen to Led Zeppelin the more I realize how great a drummer Bonham was.

He was very good and his talent got highlighted at times. Some of their live shows were unreal.

Yes, he was. I've been a drummer for 31 years now, and I only recently (within the last 10 years or so??) realized how heavily his playing influenced me, particularly in my kick-drum technique.

I've always believed that his style was absolutely critical (and the perfect fit) for Zeppelin's music. I admire Keith Moon, too, but can you imagine how different Zeppelin's music would have been if Moon had been drumming instead of Bonham?

Conversely, how weird would "Won't Get Fooled Again" have sounded with Bonham doing his thing instead of Moon's insanity?

The perfect mixture of Benard Purdie shuffle and straight ahead 4/4 drive. Not only was he an amazing drummer, he achieved an amazing drum sound with that huge bass drum and the way he tuned it. The first drummer that producers actually built tracks around his drumming.

One of the all time greats.

Bonham is underrated for his technical skills because he played hard and, generally, didn't overplay.

But, a great, great drummer all the way around.

Moon is kind of a one off type musician. A keyboard player who used the drums instead - there are particularly poor technique and timing errors in much of his playing, even in his masterpiece (Won't Get Fooled Again), but he was right for The Who. Ox was the timekeeper and, by default, the "drummer" for The Who and just happened to play bass instead of drums.

Because of their relative different skillsets, Bonham could have done Moon a lot better than Moon could have done Bonham. Let's just leave it at that.

You said it better than I did. I agree 100%
