1st off let me just say that Jimmy Page is my favorite guitarist bar none, but what happened with his playing after Led Zeppelin called it quits after Bonham's death ?

I remember when I first heard that he was forming a new group with Paul Rogers...I thought, oh hell yes, my favorite guitarist paired with my favorite vocalist...and it was a big letdown.

I've tried to embrace The Firm, but somethings just off. I know Page had a drug history, which to me really showed on his playing on In Through The Out Door (I've read in several places that John Paul Jones had a lot more influence on that album due to Page's condition.) It's still a great album.

His playing at Live Aid was pretty bad.

I think his best work post Zeppelin is probably Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes Live At The Greek.

What are your thoughts ?

If your interested in reading Rock Biographies these are pretty good for Led Zeppelin:

I have all of these and if your a Led Zeppelin fan you should check them out. One I used to have that is really good is Jimmy Page Tangents Within a Framework. It's out of print now. Loaned it out to somebody and never got it back.

I saw the Zep four times, and he was the obvious weak link. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. He had great pants though.

I think the 80's were a real struggle for him. The firm like it or hate it was Paul Rogers trying to help his friend climb out of abuse and depression. It was the start, he then met Patricia Ecker in New Orleans and started a family which also helped.

His Outrider album was pretty good IMO. I think his playing really rebounded in the 90's. Coverdale/Page was very good. The first Page Plant tour he was back but not where he needed to be they brought in Porl Thompson to help out. The second Page Plant tour post Porl Thompson when Jimmy was the only guitarist he played quite well. I saw multiple concerts on both tours. Then the Black Crowes work was great as well it's a shame his back gave out. I love listening to that album but I must admit I can only tolerate so much of Chris Robinson trying to be Robert Plant before I have to take a brake.

If Jimmy Page is your weak link I would say that your band is doing alright.
