Legion of Mary is one funky little band.

JGB and tGD are a completely different ballgame, imo

Merl Saunders was the fricking man. His clavinet work is up there with some of the funkiest of all time. His musical connection with Jerry was nothing short of majestic.
I really dig both LOM and Reconstruction. I think their shows had less filler than a Dead show. Were they better? Tough call.
Plus the Dead had Phil dropping bombs. Head to head Phil destroys Kahn.

Wife and I met at a JGB show, so I have a soft spot.

Some of my best show memories of the 90s weren't Phish or the Dead... they were seeing various people who had played with Jerry in different bands and toured through Fayetteville, playing at intimate venues, dancing my arse off, and partying with the band after the shows at various houses: Merle Saunders, Martin Fierro, Melvin Seals, Steve Kimock, etc...

You ever ride the H-train with John Kahn?
Posted on 8/8/14 at 9:48 am to TreyAnastasio
Heh. No. Boomers with LoS, though.

Yeah. He's played some pretty phenomenal shows here in Fayetteville over the years (first with Zero then with SKB). He has a pretty deep connection to the area and folks here.
Great guitarist. Kind of an a-hole in real life, though.
