Jazz Fest’s FB page right now

Basically comprised of 3 factions:
1. People that think WSP is a tremendous downgrade from the Stones and Fleetwood Mac (FTR, they’re not wrong).
2. Stoners and other jam band cultists who think this is the greatest thing ever and want to pick a fight with anyone who disagrees.
3. Locals pissing and moaning about how Jazz Fest has sold out and that they need to ditch the headliners and get back to their roots of strictly local music...completely forgetting that Shell and Miller Lite and the other sponsors are not ponying up for THAT, and without that, Jazz Fest disappears altogether.
What a trainwreck

I don't get this argument considering that French Quarter Fest is exactly that just two weeks earlier and free to the public.
ETA: I realize my quoted section made it seem like I disagreed with Shell wanting real headliners. I disagree with those wanting Jazz Fest to be an all local music fest because French Quarter Fest is exactly that.

I hate this crowds thinking. The big bands pay the bills so we can still have hundreds of smaller and local bands who get to come play in front of people from all over the world.

Should "Jazz Fest" be more geared to promoting and showcasing Jazz music? Other than the local acts, there isn't too much jazz being played.

Herbie Hancock was a frequent headliner for decades. The Jazz Tent brings in a lot of national acts, not just locals. If you want to hear Jazz, Jazz Fest certainly has you covered. The same is true for fans of gospel and blues.

That Gospel Tent is the best-kept secret of the festival.

You’d have a small fraction of the current number of attendees showing up.
Again, the corporate sponsors want a return on their investment. An almost strictly jazz festival isn’t going to pay its own freight.

What happened to a Led Zeppelin reunion replacing the Stones?
Posted on 4/9/19 at 2:45 pm to cj35
That had about as much of a chance of happening as Dave Schools losing 40 lbs (he is fat).

Uh, yeah. If they did, it wouldn’t be such a secret.
Posted on 4/9/19 at 3:24 pm to Godfather1
It’s not. People just don’t stay there very long because most people really don’t care for the genre.

April Fool joke.
As anti-LZ as Robert Plant is anymore, there was a better chance that the other April Fool joke was going to take place, i.e., the Molly Ringwalds were replacing the Stones.
Actually, you’ve probably got a better chance of seeing a resurrected zombie Elvis performing at JF than a reunited LZ.

They are right, but what the frick is Jazzfest supposed to do in the 11th hour? I am a pretty big Panic fan and I agree they are a downgrade from the greatest rock band ever.

I'm happy to get to see WSP, but I wish the Stones were in the city. I think the energy would have been fantastic. I really do not think this mindset is the majority of "jamband" fans.

frick the fairgrounds. It isn't for everyone, myself included. There is plenty of room for locals at the track and ALL around town.
