You know it's a good album when there is no consensus best song yet everyone (in general) likes it.

Finally bought the album yesterday. "Elephant" is my favorite.
As an aside, I really enjoyed his interview on Marc Maron's podcast "WTF." I learned quite a bit about Isbell, and he did a great acoustic performance of "Elephant."

Agreed. I have heard quite a few Isbell interviews and this one was one of the better ones.

Don't see how you find it obnoxious. I think it's a very real voice. It doesn't sound overdone at all to me.
He's also exceptional at song writing. Elephant is some magical stuff.
