Anyone know of any music stores that have a decent inventory of Jackson guitars in stock? I’ve been to Guitar Center many times but they tend to overstock the low end models. And I don’t want to order something without having the chance to play it first. Probably looking for a soloist in the $1,000-1,500 range.

Go see Mel at C&M...he is a really genuine and cool guy (owns the place)—he has like 5 locations in south LA.

If yu have to go asap, gographically closest best bet is probably Fuller's in Houston. But their website is only showing a handful of USA guitars, production and JCS combined. I don't know if I'd drive that far for what they show online as current stock.

If I was wanting to play-before-pay USA Jackson or Charvel, I'd go to the annual vintage show in Dallas (traditionally in March) and/or Arlington (traditionally in October). Far drive but you'll actually find more cool vintage San Dimas and Ontario Jackson pieces than FMIC pieces, and the vintage stuff isn't necessarily more expensive than the new stuff.

Or ... go with Sweetwater, MF or another online source that gives you a 30-day money back guarantee or something like that. I've been told SW will take back anything for almost any ridiculous excuse you come up with as to why you are displeased. I don't know if you can get a USA Soloist for 1K-1500, I haven't shopped new Jackson in ages.

FYI, the modern FMIC stuff that has crossed my bench has been good and consistent. I'd buy online sight unseen with reasonable confidence. But I'd want that return policy just in case :)

Just shopped USA SL-1s and SL-2s for the first time in ages, man the prices have creeped up on them. Go see Melvin and see what he can do for you in the Jackson line within your budget. Agreed, he is a great guy and will take care of you.

I ended up going this route. I actually had not even consodered it prior to reading this post, but looked up Sweetwater’s return policy and some reviews after reading this. Everything was delivered 2 days later - shipping was free, but I just paid an extra $9.95 to have it before Christmas. Wasn’t expecting it until Monday but it got here 2 days sooner. As luck would have it, the bottom edge of the cabinet was damaged during shipping. I emailed photos to the sales rep and he said I would be contacted by support. I was really just considering living with it since it is strictly cosmetic and I didn’t feel like going through the hassle of shipping it back and being without it while I awaited a new one.

However, their supoort team contacted me and said they would send me a prepaid shipping label and are actually sending a new cabinet immediately. I just have to return the damaged one within 14 days of the arrival of the new one.

Absolutely love the guitar and very happy with the customer service. And the 100W amp is a steal for only $350. Downloaded around 20 custom patches into it from the Marshall website already.

I’ve got a Jackson V sitting in a hard case. I just don’t play much anymore and I have other guitars. I can post pics if you’re interested in it.
