The greatest yacht rock is either Hall & Oates or Steely Dan.

The #1 yacht rock song must be Toto-Africa

You can almost smell the reigns down in Africa.

Typically after labor day it turns to an online only station. When memorial day comes around, it will be back on the radio.

You might be right. Lets define Yacht Rock...I think it's the 8-track era and anything from Don Henley's career was definitely after that.

Tend to be your '70s-early'80s solo musicians or groups comprised of big studio musicians, who play soft-rock music. Christopher Cross, Ambrosia, Stephen Bishop, Player, etc.

Think it was a radio station or something that got a group of these artists together for a concert and slapped the "Yacht Rock" moniker on it. Stuck ever since.

Lets define Yacht Rock
quote:
Yacht rock (originally known as the West Coast sound or adult-oriented rock) is a broad music style and aesthetic commonly associated with soft rock, one of the most commercially successful genres from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. Drawing on sources such as smooth soul, smooth jazz, R&B, and disco, common stylistic traits include high-quality production, clean vocals, and a focus on light, catchy melodies. Its name, coined in 2005 by the makers of the online video series Yacht Rock, was derived from its association with the popular Southern Californian leisure activity of sailing.
