A rivalry would imply that there is there is some similarity in skill and talent

So no. No Rivalry.

The problem with phish nowadays is not fishman. It is Tray. Tray used to be so sharp, like a hot samurai sword through butter. Now Tray is sloppy and boring.

Is there a unspoken rivalry with WSP fans and Phish fans? Or is it open?

Yes, only because they were the two main jam bands that formed post-gratefuldead. Phish always had the largest following. Panic was number one only when Phish was on hiatus but always had the second largest following otherwise. It would be a much better rivalry if Houser was still alive. He was by far the best member of that band in my eyes.

But we all know who will be number one when Phish goes on hiatus again

WSP has little appeal outside of the south.

Phish has worldwide appeal that includes sold out shows across North America, Europe, and Japan.

Why would Phish go on hiatus again? They play like 6 shows a year and make bank.

yes, because people in the south are stupid rednecks with terrible music taste with the exception of Nola.

To be fair, it was pretty much the same people going to the sold out shows in Europe and Japan that were going to the ones in North America.

yea trey, red rocks and camp bisco are "small venues"

fwiw, seeing a sold out show at a small venue like the boulder theater or tabernacle trumps a sold out show at madison square garden any day. The acoustics are better and less mainstream.

For the most part does not mean 100%. Honest discussion seems to be a concept some people have trouble understanding.
