Is generational nostalgia for music still possible for young people?

Think about growing up in the 80’s, 90’s, and slightly beyond. Airborne radio and Top 40 stations had supremacy over what people listened to and most people were listening to the same hits that they would return to as an entire generation in later years. Think ‘Billy Jean’, ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ or similar songs.
With so many different sources of music and people easily listening to so many different things is that even still possible today? What songs would largely define most of the teens in this decade for example?

Until the '60s, songs were on the chart for about 3 months, then disappeared until nostalgia for the era kicked in in 30 (later 20) yrs
This began to change w/the AOR format of the '70s, which kept Beatles, Stones, and other superstar acts in their playlists, no matter the age of the track (this also had the effect of making it tougher for new acts to break through to the tightened playlists).
Nostalgia, in the old sense of missing something for at least awhile, doesn't really exist for music anymore. Pretty much anything you ever heard is only a click away to listen to.
This began to change w/the AOR format of the '70s, which kept Beatles, Stones, and other superstar acts in their playlists, no matter the age of the track (this also had the effect of making it tougher for new acts to break through to the tightened playlists).

Yes of course. It will be for people like Taylor Swift, Drake, and probably some others that you haven't heard of. Young people didn't stop listening to music.

I was a late teen, early 20s, in the 2010-2014ish period and listened to country radio a lot in those days.
I know many here would say those songs are trash but they are nostalgic for me personally.

I’m the same as you but a touch later 2010-2015ish. Now I don’t even listen to Nashville country radio, but I do have a playlist on Spotify of those songs that take me back to the memories.
This was the very beginning of the bro country era. Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and FGL. FGL gets shite on a ton and they weren’t country, but they did put out some epic party bangers and catchy sing-a-longs for the truck.

I don't think most of the songs were great per se, but they're definitely nostalgic to me. I do the same with the Spotify playlist,I think I have like 550 songs on it. Some of my options are a little older than that period because they were still being played on the radio, like some of the early 2000's Tim McGraw stuff.
It's like fast food, I don't think most of it's that great but sometimes it just hits the spot.
If I'm listening to "newer stuff", I tend to go more toward Flatland Cavalry, Turnpike, Muscadine Bloodline, etc

I remember my first real date with my first "serious" girlfriend, Neon by Chris Young was playing. It had just come out and we were at a red light in her 2010 Malibu. Just one of those moments that stands out for no reason.

Mostly singing some of those songs driving back and forth from high school and my summer jobs thinking about a girl.
I worked at the LSU dairy farm while I was in college. They had a guy that milked at nights during the school week, but the student workers had a weekend rotation we’d do in addition to our normal weekday jobs. Anyway, I’d go to sleep early Friday night, wake up at midnight, and start milking at 12:30 in the morning until about 8 am. I was the only one out there on those quiet Baton Rouge nights so I blared the country radio station, sang, and milked cows. I know it sounds lame, but to me it was so peaceful to walk out the milking parlor and stare up at the moon and stars.
Every time I hear Play it Again, Drunk on a Plane, Running out of moonlight, Doing what she likes, etc. it reminds me of that job. I wish I could go back in time and relive those nights again.

She was sittin all alone over on a tailgate, tan legs swinging by a Georgia plate
Those were good times.
