Kingbob, I would agree with you about Stapleton. His lyrics are really good and tap into the emotional side because we have either experienced it or can imagine it.

Sturgill Simpson is an excellent lyricist as well. Go listen to "You can have the crown". Hilarious song. He has done some great covers but his original stuff has lyrics that are relatable.
I've always despised country music but these 2 guys that write their own stuff have brought into the fold. I search for guys that are original and have good lyrics. Morgan Whalen is a pretty good lyric writer from the few songs I've heard.
