Is a Squier Affinity Strat worth building up?

Ive been playing guitar on and off for about 8-9 years, recently being off. Got strapped for cash and sold my last electric and amp about a year ago and I'm getting the itch to start playing again.

Found an old Squier Affinity Strat in my closet that I got several years ago from a friend that started to customize it but gave up so he gave it to me and I forgot about it. The clear coat has been sanded off, the wires to the input jack need to be soldered back on, and it needs some strings and it can play.

I am not looking for to make this thing into a replica America strat but would it be worth it to throw a few things on it and try to make it better or is it just a doomed guitar? I know wood makes a big part of the sound but would a replacement bridge and nut, to help with the action, or some new pick ups make this thing playable with some decent tone? Ive played these things before and the pick ups, IMO, are horrible but I am also a tone Nazi.
