Read this article that chronicled Donnie's rise to the top in the rave world, the crash after the enforcement of the crack house law and the introduction of the RAVE act, and his rebuilding and eventual sale of Disco Productions to SFX. I've met the guy quite a few times and real down to earth but I definitely couldn't do what he does, especially with a wife and kids.

Added bonus, stumbled across this subreddit with footage of some parties back in 99-2000. I'm sure some of you are in these videos.

I remember pulling up to the STP when everybody was standing around outside during the raid. We were tripping balls and had no idea what was going on. Ended up chit-chatting with Fresh from Bad Company for about 10 minutes before I realized who he was.

Donnie & I had our differences at one point, but we ended up on the same side eventually, and I actually played at a couple of his parties at the STP. Really cool guy, and yeah, there's no way in hell that I could do what he does. Much, much respect to Disco Donnie.

Suspicion (spun drum n bass). Played at Caffeine '03 and at a fundraiser for Donnie at SPT. Also used to play at Culture & Library Joe's/Northgate in BR regularly (10+ yrs ago).

HA!! What's up, old friend?

Believe it or not, I think I once wondered if that might be you, based on one of your posts (don't remember which one).

Not much chilling in BR. Yea if it were a music(dnb) post it could be pretty easy to pick me out on here. Theres around 3 people on here that might talk about dnb.

Speaking of culture, library, etc I still hit up +One every so often here in BR. Not much dnb left between nola and BR. I did go to this warehouse party about a year ago in Houston that was like stepping back in time to the old days. I just drank but it was like a mini palace party in an abandoned warehouse. Taxi cab wouldnt even come back to get us after he dropped us off and I tipped him $25

You still in LA?

Yep was getting very close to my last one. Raged '96-'99ish. Last big party i remember attending was the first freak fest that was actually held outside on the grounds next to uno. Holy balls that was crazy arse time.

I think the post may have had something to do with your pops owning a video store.

Yep, still in BR. Got a wife & kid now. Didn't I run into you at Zoolu a couple of years ago? When Ghostland played? I took one of my wife's Vyvanse's that night and felt sorta like the good ol' days.

I bet I know that warehouse in Houston. I went to NYE party for 2000 at some place like that. It was out in the barrio...all the billboards and shite were in Spanish. Definitely a sketchy place, but we never let shite like common sense stand between us and good time, did we? I've actually never made it to +One or Dirty Disco. It takes a lot to get my old arse out of the house these days.

Yea yea it was Sigma and someone else in the side room, Ghostland in the main. I sat in the dnb room with Marcus for hours(3D bead man).

Thats gotta be the same one. We stopped at a gas station nearby that was barricaded up like it was preparing for war and bought some beer through the bullet proof slide glass. When we were trying to leave and no cabs would come get us, some guy leaving the party carrying his wife cause she was wasted said he was going to a club downtown and asked us if we wanted to go. I said yea because I knew we could get a cab from there to our hotel. When we got to the club the guy left his wife in the car sleeping while we went into the club. He took some tabs when we got in the place and started hitting and grabbing all over some chick. I went to the bar to get a beer, no alcohol 5am. Left immediately

Tell me about it. I'll be fricking 36 in September.

For some reason, I thought you had moved back to NOLA, but I'm probably just making that up.

Yep. We went to see GLO, but all the dnb was a nice lagniappe. Enjoyed the shite out of Green Velvet, too. Although all those young punks at the show had no fricking idea who they were watching. It's crazy how much the crowd has changed. It wasn't nearly as shady as it used to be, but it also didn't seem like they were nearly as into it. It was me and maybe 2 other people out of thousands actually throwing down on the floor.

Ha! Yep, that's probably it. When we went, it really seemed like no one was even living around there because it was eerily quiet. The worst thing that happened was being approached by some g'd out idiot (from the party) on our way out of the party. We thought he needed help, but then he started acting all creepy and shite, so we just jetted.

Moving back to nola in about a year or so. Im finishing school in Texas this upcoming fall/spring and will probably make the move back after.

Yea the crowd has definitely changed. Ive gone to a few parties here and there (Buku, Sugar Mill) and you can really notice that plenty of the people have no idea who is on stage or what is going on at all. At Buku, you had people like Calvin Harris playing shite to thousands of people while Nero was in the float den killing it for a hundred people. My gf was kinda looking at me like damn Jones is getting the frick down, shes never seen that. I guess it also helped that I was 20 beers or so in and he slipped in some dnb.

That local dnb crew is Houston is pretty good though. I was jamming in there for awhile. Maybe was also hoping when I walked outside that I wasnt still in a deserted ghetto hood

I thought you were from BR but from what's posted above looks like you are from NOLA. I'm willing to bet the Westbank.

Man, at that Zoolu, I was standing near the bar in the back of the big room (was pounding Red Bulls & Vodka ) watching Green Velvet, and the little pricks around me started a "Ghostland! Ghostland!" chant. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It just showed me that they had no idea the level of legend that they were witnessing. Really pissed me off.

We'll have to kick it this summer, bro. Maybe I'll finally make it to one of the local weeklies or whatever. Are they still doing those?
