They are a rock band with many progressive tendencies, I'm a huge prog-head (especially Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, Nekter, ELP, Mars Volta, dredg) and these guys are right up my alley.
The leader is a guy named Casey Crescenzo and he wrote five albums so far that are a continuing story, Acts I-V. But they are very genre-bending. A little bit of everything from classical to jazz. They even mix in ragtime, violins, and horns as well. They also have two albums that are not concept albums, the Color Spectrum and Migrant.
Maybe try the link to the live show first to see if you like the style, but I'd recommend listening to parts of different albums to get a feel.
Here are some links:
Acts I-V
the Dear Hunter live at Audiotree 2017
Act IV

I never made it all the way through that "Wedding Scene" song.

I've been pushing them on here for a while, but it gets ignored every time. I only really got into them a few years ago. Years ago, they opened for dredg and Circa Survive in New Orleans, but my friend and I didn't make it in time for their set.
You forgot disco. King of Swords (Reversed)
I actually think the full Color Spectrum is a concept album given the nature of each EP representing a color musically.
You should order a copy of The Color Spectrum Live dvd. It's fantastic. I'm still trying to get my hands on all of the vinyls.
You should check out Devin Townsend. He and The Dear Hunter have a lot of cross-over fans. I say this as a fellow prog fan who has seen dredg more times than I could count.

I'll have to try to get the Color Spectrum live DVD.
I saw dredg in 2004, it was amazing. I saw the Mars Volta in 2005 with Jon Theodore on drums and in 2006, with Thomas Pridgen on drums. Both of those shows were incredible.
I like Devin Townsend too. I especially like his stuff from the early 2000s. But, I need to check out more of his recent albums.
