Steven Wilson's solo career just doesn't cut it. Yes he still puts out good music, but missing Gavin and the rest of the band keeps it from being anything near where the PT sound was. PT is truly one of the greatest bands of all time, and it's a shame that Wilson has no intention to revive the band.

Oh wait, what's this?

Steven Wilson: Porcupine Tree Could Return When ‘Everyone’s Least Expecting It’

quote:

"What I always say to people is, 'When you least expect me to do something, that's probably when I'll do it,'" Wilson explained when asked about the probability of the band's comeback. "I've always said Porcupine Tree, I can imagine we'll probably make another record one day. I don't know when. We'll probably do it at the moment everyone's least expecting it."

quote:

"I still love so-called progressive rock," Wilson shared, "but I'm not there right now, honestly. I'm more excited by other music right now. But one thing I know from my past is that I go through cycles with things. Pink Floyd will always be my favorite group — always have been, always will be. My relationship with other progressive rock waxes and wanes. I could easily be excited by something like that again."

Yes, we are all aware who your favorite band it. You emulating much of your sound after them makes that clear, and it's a big reason why PT is so great. Now stop with the synth shite and get back to what we need.

This would be a dream come true for me. I would fly overseas to see them if I had to.

To this day I regret missing them at Voodoo back in 07. Since I came in town for all the Saints games, it was too much to come in for that concert. It had them and Portugal.TheMan, and lazy me figured I would get to see them again in the future. That time never did come.

I will definitely travel for this show now

I concur wholeheartedly, and I've said the same thing about Sting for decades. He's made some great music as a solo act, but he'll never have the band he had in the Police.

The only reason I missed it was to drive to Houston to see a them play a longer set the following night.

A couple of iterations of his band since then have been unbelievable. Minneman is probably in Gavin's ballpark and Govan is the best guitarist who has toured with him (sorry, John Wesley). That said, as a complete unit, PT was just more matured as a group.

I've been saying this as a general observation for several years now. The majority of pop music (pop = general sense, not just "pop music") has become about an individual star with a promotable identity and face. I haven't done any research to get data to back it up but it sure seems like there are a lot less bands/groups now. I think there are some creative individuals, but there's a different level of creativity that can come from the push & pull of being in a group with multiple people contributing.

I was lucky to be at Voodoo that day. Great show. Rage played shortly after so needless to say it was an all timer as far as Voodoo days go.
