From a fairly talented family, his mother co-wrote Heartbreak Hotel with Thomas Durden.

For casual fans, Hoyt also wrote the hits:

Joy to the World (Three Dog Night)

The Pusher (Steppenwolf)

among others.

I liked his Della and the Dealer. He was on television a lot in the 70s and 80s.

He was also good in The Black Stallion as Alec Ramsey’s dad who dies when the ship sank.

Hoyt wrote a song that was so popular, that in 1971, a little 4th grader was walking around singing, "Jeremiah was a bullfrog..."

My favorite Hoyt Axton song is one that he recorded back in 1971, "On A Coast In Dallas".

I've never been able to locate any video or YouTube presentation of this song.

He also sang the Busch Beer jingle back in the day, and was Jennifer Marlowe's (WKRP in Cincinnati)long-lost love.

He also wrote "The No No Song" made popular by Ringo Starr.

In trying to locate “On a coast in Dallas” (which I couldn’t) I found he wrote this song which I had seen the Fabulous Poodles play live never realizing he wrote it:

Fabulous Poodles- Roll Your Own

Hoyt’s version:

Hoyt- Roll Your Own
