big John Mayer fan here

Same here....though I find his last two albums disappointing. Continuum seems to be his peak. I liked him better a lil cocky and a douche than the self examined sensitive shite he's been doing.

I'd rank them:

Trucks
Frus
Mayer

Although I like frus' tone better.
But trucks plays probably the most baddest guitar ever invented.

Idk, I'm not really big on who's the "best guitarist". That is completely subjective.

I don't care for much of chili peppers, and I don't care for jam bands. I've seen John Mayer live with a band and solo acoustic. He doesn't have much "soul" to me.

Me, neither. Frusciante's best work happens outside of RHCP, though.

Noodly southern jam rock drenched in reverb

Seems to be quite popular these days.

Trucks, Frusciante and why is Mayer even mentioned?

One thing I don't like about Derek Trucks is that I've never heard him play without his slide. Not taking anything away from him, but I like to hear variation, and I don't hear it from him.

That being said:

Frusciante
Trucks
Mayer

Like the poster said earlier, Frusciante is incredibly creative. So much energy goes behind his playing, that's why I love it.

Mayer can really play, but he's a douche, and I don't like him. That's the reason why I'll put him last.
