It has a 50s serial number, has this same Bigsby on it, but the pick guard is different, everything else is exactly the same. Does anyone know anything about these? It's in fantastic condition, almost too good to be true.

That’s a damn fine looking guitar.

What were they asking for the one you saw?

askin 8, but I think they have had it a while and I might get a deal. I didn't plug it in yet, but I will. Really like everything about it. Might need some work but jeez it feels good.

Don't they normally run around 15-20 for a 50s esquire? I'd definitely my research on it and make sure it's not a fake.

Yeah, woke up this morning with an e-mail from a friend that knows about it. He says it's fake. I'll leave it alone. It really looks cool though, might have to build one like that.

could share what your friend sees to know it's a fake, other than the pick guard

He has some photos sent from the seller's phone. He said that the neck isn't right, the serial number is applied wrong and the end of the truss rod isn't right for what it's supposed to be.

I haven't plugged it in yet, but whoever put that thing together did a really nice job. The set-up is about perfect.

A Frankentele? The wood looks too good for a production Tele/Esquire. The plate cover for the pots is cool, but not correct(looks like a cover for a Tele bass). The Bigsby looks old, but who knows. Fender Custom Shop production? Would be cool to fondle for a few minutes and check it out.

It's definitely a cool guitar. The guy that owns it now is a pretty good dude, and he doesn't know anything about it. He will be disappointed, but he's not hurting for money. He even already had his doubts about it being real.
I'm still going to go back over there and plug that thing in and check it out. Once he knows it's fake, he might let me borrow it for a while

You know though, that's kind of a cool thing about it being a fake, you could do anything you want to it.

You might not be able to see from the pic I posted, but the pick up isn't in the body. It's mounted inside the bigsby, and the neck is raised and angled back like a hollow body.

Looks cool. Feel like the “simple” look of the body gives it LP Jr vibes

You're exactly right. I don't know if you ever saw the pics of the LP junior that I built out of a kit from stew mac, but the feel and finish of the body, is very similar to what I did on that one.
