Last year, I spent a couple of months trying different picks. Size, shape, material, and gauge I tried a ton of different ones. I landed on the standard gauge Chicken Picks, I think it's 2.6mm. I never imagined I'd like one that thick, but it just works for me on electric. I've always had trouble keeping a pick in place, as I change dynamics it always rotated between my fingers, especially when sweating, the Chicken Picks don't rotate even though they are relatively smooth feeling. No idea what the material is, but seems extremely durable, I'v been playing the same one for about 6 months and it shows zero wear. They have a very nice beveled edge that allows the string to slide off it without grabbing. I believe they are about $20 for three.
That said, for me, Chicken Picks make my acoustic sound a bit dull. So I use a Dunlop Primetone Semi Round in 1.5mm.
BTW, I NEVER use the pointy end of a pick, I use the rounded "shoulder".

A pick comparison was one of the 1st things we did back yonder when I took lessons. 
Had an acquaintance that thought he'd grow to be a guitar virtuoso... and it pissed him off so bad once he made it to the conservancy where they had him play forever with a nickle.

I always figured I couldn't be the only one...not only do I only use that part of the pick but I hold it with my thumb, pointer and middle fingers and very little of the pick extends from them, just the very edge. I do sometimes use only the thumb and pointer finger or thumb and middle finger depending on what exactly I'm doing.
What about you?

Although I'll also use the pointed edge along with the opposite end, a corner, or the side. However it's mostly a thumb pick these days.

I'm pretty heavy handed when picking, using a round tip allows the pick to slide off the string more easily. Sometimes, it's the little things that annoy me, like the clicky sound of a pick against the string an instant before the note sounds out, I just don't like it. The round edge minimizes the snap, so the note blooms more to my ear. That's stuff that nobody listening would ever perceive, but I do. If I need more snap (country) the Chicken Pick is super stiff, and like I said it's very easy to hang on to.
If I'm flat picking acoustic, fiddle tunes, cross picking, etc I'll grab a much more pointy pick for accuracy.

Wegan picks are a good blue chip alternative at between $5-20
But the Bluechips are hard to beat
Someone told me the three thing you look for in a pick are
Tone
Speed ( how quick it comes off the string)
Durability (How well it keeps its shape)
You can find picks that are better at one or two of these but it does the best job of capturing all 3
