Guitar Repair in Baton Rouge

Best place to get my Taylor 214 set up.......issues with fret buzz on B and e small strings and action to high at 12th fret. Is Tim the only good luthier in Baton Rouge? Any suggestions for someone else that does good work? Thanks.

I had a guy do some work for me cuz he was cheaper than Tim. It was good at first but he eventually started dropping the ball. I won't even mention his name.
Just go with Tim. He's not always the easiest to deal with but he gets it done right. Anybody who knows their shite will recommend him.

Unless you use your guitar to play Bach, Handel, or Scarlatti, don't bother getting it repaired.

Here is why I am not a fan of Tim: Around 2003 I brought one in and he told me he was busy but to put my name on a contact list for when he got caught up. 2015 and still waiting on that call. I was in Nashville the last time I needed something done that I can't do myself. I don't know what I'd do in BR, but not there out of principal.

Everybody has a story like this in dealing with Tim. He has employees that kind of come and go and depending on the luck of the draw, you might catch him when he doesn't have a lot on the docket or he might be slammed and not have anybody to help him. But I don't think he works 24 hours a day just to catch up.
I've known a few guys who've worked for him and I know the one thing he hates is when a customer calls every 5 minutes to see if the work is finished yet. And if he can't get to it for a while, he knows that he'll probably have to make the same excuses over and over for several months.
It can seem unprofessional but as you can see by this thread, he's pretty much the only game in town and can dictate his own terms.
I just hate to imagine what will happen when he retires. If there is anybody comparable out there, they sure aren't very well known.

Thanks for the info folks. A few years back someone suggested a guy that supposedly did very good work. I lost the contact info over the years and was hoping someone here might know him. It was my understanding that he had been a tech for Louisiana Leroux at one time.

he does. he's a good luthier but takes a long time to do anything. i've heard of people waiting two months to get their guitar back for a setup. 3 months for a refret.
he does good work but be prepared to wait. I get all of my work done through a guy that used to work for him years ago and there is very little wait because it's not a business. he just does it for some side cash. he went to roberto-venn school of luthiery. the best school in the country.

I had a guy at guitar center set mine up. Because that's the only person I knew. He thinks highly of himself.

guitar center is useful for buying used gear from other stores and having it shipped to the city you live in for cheap. that's about it. they will try to rape you on trade ins and selling stuff to them. I would recommend not getting any guitar work from them as well.

I know we are talking about BR, but there is a guy at C&M in Lafayette who does great work.
Sorry, I don't know his name. But if you call ask for the Manager Chris Lindsey, he'll tell you the guys name and what he repairs/charges.
Seems logical to drive 1 hour to Lafayette or NOLA and get it back quicker. I know Tim and he does great work. If he can't do it, look for other options. He's not the only guitar repair person in the state.
