Damn, sorry to hear!

Around Christmas, I have a ton of people contacting me because their kids are wanting to learn.
I always give them the same advice: NEVER give a young person an acoustic to learn on.
Yeah, I have been eyeballing one of those Fender x Loog electrics for my 8-year old. She's very interested in playing, but she just has a little pink acoustic to play on. She doesn't have the hand strength for it, so it dissuades her.

Dropped off the broken Les Paul on Monday, guy at Strange said "gluing it might work or might not". Gave it a shot for $100.
The kicker was it could be 2-4 weeks, especially with Christmas and I'm off until after New year. Didn't want to pass up valuable learning time, so I picked up a Squier Sonic Telecaster.
Took my time reading and watching videos on set up and the why behind everything. Got it set up pretty well imo, action is good and low without fret buzz, and it's intonated. Stayed with a cheaper guitar so I can learn how to adjust things and how, and not feel bad about messing it up.

Thanks for all the tips in this thread.
Still learning how to play! I seem to enjoy picking way more than strumming chords. Also, I tend to pick up the cheap squier over the Les Paul 9 times out of 10. I seem to prefer the more spaced out frets and thinner neck.
I changed the 9s on the tele to 10s and set it up again and I like it even more. Had to fix a lose wire in it as well, but other than that, I really enjoy learning and playing it.

Good deal. Stay after it.

You will learn A LOT about picking and technique from playing amplified as how you strum and fret makes a BIG difference in the sound of notes under amplification.
100% start with either headphones or an amp that can be played at so called bedroom volumes. You will literally takes years off of your learning process if you learn string muting techniques properly from the start.

After feeling how heavy the Les Paul is, I am definitely getting a comfortable strap.
A good 3" leather strap will do the trick. I got this exact one in black for my Les Paul and it makes it very comfortable to play standing as opposed to a 2" nylon strap.

Guitar Center used selection online. 45 day return policy.
Squire Classic Vibe Strat. Pick a decade. They do 50’s 60’s and 70’s now.
I have a Squier Tele that’s a classic vibe. Not a damned thing wrong with it other than it being heavier than most. Probably cheaper wood. But it ain’t breaking on you. I could beat someone to death with the body of the guitar and all I’d need after was retune.
Amps. Used too. I have a fender mustang amp. I will be buying another just to get the upgrade to the software in them. Perfect practice amps.
I have a Spark amp I’d sell you. But I’d feel bad about it. They are poor quality IMO. Lots of notes cut out.

I think the Classic Vibe Tele has a pine body.

I have a marshall mg 10 I've been playing on. It's fine for learning.
I have a tendency to pick up a new hobby, and buy too nice of things and find out I'm not that into it. so I bought a cheap practice amp, and will reward myself with a new amp for continuing to play and when I get better. Trying to decide the benchmark of "better". Maybe I'll pick a song I want to learn, and once I learn it, I can get a better amp lol.
