Free? Justin Guitar.

YouTube. Justin and Marty Schwartz

YouTube and shred? Ben Eller. Kinda funny too.

Pay sites? I did a year with JamPlay. Can't say they were better than Justin, just had more instructors. So if Justin's Aussie accent got too "croc hunter" for you you could change.

I'm still looking so I am all ears. I know Marty Schwartz has a paid site too.

YouTube also has a guy named Scott Grove. I just wanted the boards opinion on him. He has a good number of viewers and subscribers, but his videos ramble and he strikes me as crazy. Opinionated is fine, but he's cuckoo too? My opinion. I wondered what others may think of him, and does he ever give lessons? Or just editorials and opinion?

im thinking about his pay site. It's pretty cheap and I did a couple of his YouTube lessons and they were pretty good. That was a couple of years ago before things got crazy at work. He seems like a pretty good teacher so I'll probably try him first.

I'll check out the other guys you listed too.

Thanks

Check out Active Melody. $59 per year and his lessons cover a wide variety of styles. Probably more for an intermediate player, but for the price, it is pretty good.

I wanted to bump and hijack this thread.

Any insight into price for online lessons and any experience with them?

Meaning "yeah I went to Marty Schwartz site it costs $99 a year and it sucked!" None of that is accurate. Just an example.

I enjoy this guy's site for songs

Alan Robinson

for fingerstyle songs, also

Jerry's Guitar Bar

for lessons, I did Gibson's Learn and Master Guitar

LINK

It's a pretty in depth look into all the basics and touches on a little of everything. It will teach you how read music too if that is something you want to learn. After this, you can branch out into what you like or what you want to get more into

Online lessons are great, but I think learning first from a teacher face to face is the way to go,then use the online lessons to expand.
A real teacher can encourage you to make real progress, and help you keep from falling into some bad playing habits.

LSU Alum Wannabee is the latest on here to get the Guitar Bug.He's probably got some good tips for you.

I taught myself before the Internet from Books,Chord Charts, and then Songbooks.

I picked it up 16 years ago with zero knowledge of a guitar.

So,you can do it.No doubt about it.

I can't explain the pure joy that I feel when I play my Guitar.Picking up the Guitar, and sticking with it,has been the best gift that I've ever given myself.

Best of luck.Have fun. And,happy picking and strumming.

...offers a 30 day trial that covers all levels (in all manner of styles). Did a few of these couple years ago. Like mentioned face to face would be best is you can swing it, at least at first, just having someone critique you before the bad habit's start might be worth it.

This right here we have my 10 year old in lessons and he's doing fantastic. 1 month in and he can play 5 songs already and knows all the chords it's well worth it.

I know some fantastic players who say" I taught myself",but, the very best player that I know,he can't lie to me. I know he had a teacher,I've known him since we were kids.

Learning on my own was slow, and I got a bad habit early that held me back. I would use my 1st and middle finger to make an Em chord. This was really bad,and a good teacher could have straightened me out quick, instead I struggled for years.
just a small example
